HIMSS
“On behalf of HIMSS, the nation’s largest professional association dedicated to the cause of improving healthcare through the optimal use of health information technology, I welcome you to the RFID and RTLS Showcase. HIMSS is very excited to be co-hosting this demonstration pavilion with the RFID in Healthcare Consortium organization, who shares our commitment to improving health care delivery and quality.
The power and potential of RFID and RTLS is boundless. I encourage you to take the time to explore deeply all that this showcase has to offer from educational presentations to the demonstration hospital room that offers an exciting living illustration of the interoperability of RFID and RTLS with medical and mobile devices – all delivering real time patient data to clinicians.
I also encourage you to participate in the many other educational sessions focused on these technologies that are occurring throughout this week at HIMSS11, and to visit our website (www.himss.org) for the latest news and information on new innovations and applications of RFID and RTLS in healthcare.”

“It is the pleasure of the RFID in Healthcare Consortium to welcome you to the RFID and RTLS Showcase. The proliferation of wireless information technology RFID and RTLS platforms has expanded possibilities for improving healthcare delivery and patient safety. A well-implemented wireless infrastructure may make the practice of healthcare, whether at the administrative level or at the end user level, more efficient and effective.
However, improving safety and efficiency requires close partnerships between end users, including physicians and nurses, healthcare administrators, and industry, to determine how existing technologies may best integrate into practice, how different technologies function together, and what unmet needs exist. Without dialogue, inefficient implementation of existing systems may make it impossible to achieve goals of cost reduction and patient safety.
Thus, within the Showcase, you will see several case studies in the context of a simulated hospital environment. These studies provide a basis for understanding current technologies, their implementation, and areas for improving utilization.
It is the goal of the RFID in Healthcare Consortium to support educational opportunities, sponsor needed research, and create standards to help ensure realization of the promise that wireless technologies have to offer. We look forward to your partnership in working together towards realizing these goals.”
